WATCH: Highlights from Cubs' shutout victory versus Giants

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — Epitomizing the unpredictable nature of Major League Baseball, one day after combining for 23 runs and 27 hits, the Chicago Cubs (69-58) and the San Francisco Giants (63-65) took part in a 1-0 war of attrition that featured just six total hits. The Cubs won 1-0 at Wrigley Field, thereby earning a 3-game sweep at Wrigley Field.

A fly ball from Cubs center fielder Jason Heyward fell in for a leadoff single in the bottom of the fourth due to the blinding sunlight preventing Giants center fielder Kevin Pillar from making the routine catch. Heyward eventually scored on a 2-out base knock by Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo, which proved to be the lone scoring play of the afternoon.
