CHICAGO, Ill. — The St. Louis Cardinals (20-12) had no answer for Chicago Cubs (17-12) starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks at Wrigley Field on Friday. Hendricks needed just 81 pitches to toss a complete-game shutout of the Redbirds and extend the Cubs' winning streak to five games.
Helping Hendricks' cause was Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo, who smacked a 3-run home run in the bottom of the third to provide the North Siders with a lead that they did not relinquish. Rizzo's 379-foot shot served as the eighth homer of the season and the fourth dinger in the last five contests for "Big Rizz," who is now one round-tripper away from reaching the 200-homer mark for his career.
