WATCH: Highlights from Cubs' victory in series opener against Reds

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — Extending their winning streak to five games, the Chicago Cubs (82-68) defeated the Cincinnati Reds (70-81) 8-2 on Monday. A first-inning 3-run dinger from Kyle Schwarber incited the Cubs, who never trailed in the series opener at Wrigley Field.

Despite a lackluster start on the mound by Cole Hamels, the Cubs were able to stave off the Reds, who were a subpar 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Nicholas Castellanos hit his major-league leading 55th double for the Cubs, becoming just the third right-hander in big-league history to tally at least 25 home runs and 55 doubles in a season.
