WATCH: Kyle Schwarber gets doused with Gatorade, various other substances after walkoff |
CHICAGO — After hitting a walkoff home run to lift the Chicago Cubs to a 10-inning victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday, Cubs left fielder
Kyle Schwarber was predictably doused with Gatorade during his postgame interview. However, Schwarber's teammates upped the ante by proceeding to throw ice, bubble gum and even sunflower seeds onto the slugger.
Schwarber's solo shot in the bottom of the 10th resulted in a 4-3 Cubs win at Wrigley Field. As is customary for Cubs who hit walkoffs, Schwarber was then interviewed on the field by Cubs broadcasters Len Kasper and Jim Deshaies. Once Cubs right fielder Jason Heyward stealthily splashed sports drink on Schwarber's back, Kasper commented that Schwarber's situation was "not that bad," but it only escalated from there.
