CHICAGO — Prior to the Chicago Cubs' series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Wrigley Field on Friday, recent Cubs call-up Nico Hoerner chatted with the media about how excited he was to play in his first game at the Friendly Confines. Hoerner clearly did not feel any pressure, as he made an immediate impact at the plate.

Swinging at the first pitch thrown to him in the first inning, Hoerner drilled a go-ahead 2-run jack as part of a frenetic opening frame that ended with the Cubs leading the Pirates 5-4. Following a double by Cubs left fielder Kyle Schwarber, Hoerner, who started at shortstop on the afternoon, smacked a 411-footer out beyond center field for his first career home run, with the bomb off Pirates starter Steven Brault putting the Cubs up by one run.
