Cubs News: Willson Contreras injury update |
CHICAGO — On Thursday, the Chicago Cubs announced the upcoming plans for catcher
Willson Contreras' injury rehab. Contreras is currently on the injured list due to a severe hamstring strain suffered in early August, and the Cubs are hopeful that he will able to play again in early September. Contreras has been working out with Cubs trainers up to this point, and Friday will mark his first game action since his injury.
The Cubs revealed Contreras' next step along his road to recovery on Thursday, as the backstop will begin a rehab stint with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs on Friday. According to several media reports, Contreras is expected to spend approximately one week there and will begin by catching for several innings and taking part in a few at-bats before being removed during the course of Friday's contest. Willson Contreras will begin a Minor League rehab assignment with AAA Iowa on Friday. Plan is to have him catch 2-3 innings and get a couple at-bats.
