Justin Fields unfollowed the Chicago Bears and NFL on Instagram. He is also currently following some of the most prominent players on the Atlanta Falcons - Kyle Pitts, Bijan Robinson and Drake London.
His following and unfollowing patterns have greatly added fuel to the fire that his days in Chicago are numbered and he is going to be traded to the Falcons. But, Fields took to the St. Brown Brothers podcast, with Bears receiver Equanimeous St. Brown who is about to become a free agent and Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, to explain why he decided to unfollow the Bears. “I’m about to go on vacation. I don’t want to see (anything about) football,” Fields said. “Every Bears post is (about) the draft. (Are) they going to keep Fields? We want Fields. (We want them) to draft Caleb (Williams)… I’m tired of hearing the talk.” There certainly has been a vast amount of talk. The decision Chicago has ahead of them of whether they should trade Justin Fields and use the No. 1 overall pick on 2022 Heisman winner Caleb Williams, or even trade to the No. 2 spot and get 2023 Heisman winner Jaydan Daniels from LSU, is arguably the biggest offseason decision of any football team this season. It may even be one of the most important decisions in the history of the franchise. The speculation about whether Fields will be traded or not has been going on for a long time. This is something Chicago shut the door on last season when they traded the No. 1 overall pick to the Carolina Panthers for a haul of draft picks and receiver DJ Moore. Moore is one player that has spoken out to say he wants Fields to return next season. And Fields wants to return, but the constant speculation and not knowing whether or not he is going to get traded has been a bit of a burden for him as well. “Of course I want to stay (in Chicago) … I can’t see myself playing in another place. But, I know how the league is … If it was up to me, I would want to stay in Chicago. I love the city. The city’s lit. The fans there, they’re great, and the people,” Fields said. “But, it’s a business. I ain’t got no control over it. So, whatever happens happens. But I feel like the biggest thing with all this going on right now, I just want it to be over. Just let me know if I’m getting traded. Let me know if I’m staying.” On the podcast, he did comment a bit about the Falcons and their offensive talent. Atlanta finished third in their division with a 7-10 record, which included a 37-17 loss to the Bears. They are greatly in need of a quarterback and with the No. 8 overall pick, they are not currently in a position to get one of the top quarterbacks available in the draft, so it is surely feasible they will make a move to put them in position to get a high-caliber quarterback, also contributing to the theories that Atlanta may offer the No. 8 overall pick for Fields. He seemed to be fond of their players, although he did say he believes they are in need of another wide receiver. “I think they got a lot of playmakers on the team and of course, Bijan, they got my boy Kyle, of course Drake too,” Fields said. “They probably need one more receiver. But, they definitely got some guys over there and their defense was good this year too.” No matter what team Fields ends up playing for next season, he has one goal for the 2024 season - “I got to get in the playoffs.” Surely the Bears want to get to the playoffs too and their evaluation of whether Fields can get them there should be a deciding factor in whether they trade him or not. “I can’t see myself playing in another place” Justin Fields wants to stay in Chicago.
