Bears place franchise tag on Allen Robinson

by - Senior Editor -

A big-time playmaker is back in Chicago.

The Chicago Bears have placed the franchise tag on veteran receiver Allen Robinson on Tuesday according to multiple reports.

The deal will be worth $18 million for the 2021 season.

This might get ugly as Robinson was looking to get a long-term deal with the Bears or another team. Reportedly, his representatives haven't talked with the Bears in a few months about a new deal.

"I think everybody knows a little bit on how I feel about that," Robinson said recently of the possibility of the franchise tag. "I plead the fifth."

Robinson had a career-high 102 catches for 1,250 yards and six touchdowns last season. In the last two years, he has over 200 catches.

Since 2018, he has made 61 contested catches which leads the NFL. Overall while in Chicago, he has caught 255 passes for 3,151 yards and 17 touchdowns in three seasons.

For his career, he has 457 grabs for 5,999 yards and 39 touchdowns and was rated as the No. 3 PFF free agent.

"We love Allen Robinson," Bears general manager Ryan Pace said recently. "He’s a great player for us. We know that. Not just the player but the teammate, the professional that he is. Again, the franchise tag is an option for us. It doesn’t mean we’re necessarily going to use that. But we want to keep our good players, and Allen is a good player for us."

No official word yet from the Bears on this breaking news.
