Cubs 19-

People have to understand Cub fans. Most of us were not around the last time the Cubs played in the WS(not counting 16) So when you see so much talent out there you get a little queasy when you see other clubs bettering themselves and the Cubs standing pat. I don't think they should sign Harper or Machado. I would try to sign the Rockies 3rd and 2nd basemen. Then zero in on the best SP and RP out there and sign them We will lose Bryant in a couple of yrs so trade him while you can get an Ace and a stopper thank you for bearing with me. I remain yours truly jarhead.

Yea...I'm not sure what the Cubs will do with Bryant. You have three more MVP-type years (hopefully) out of him before he hits free agency.
You can always wait till that last year and trade him for pieces if he truly has no intention of coming back to the Cubs regardless of $$$.
Thanks for the post. I think the Cubs need to get more pitching too.

LOTS of rumors about the Cubs/Giants discussing a Heyward trade. Heyward can block trades to 12 teams (that list isn't publicly known), but if the Cubs are listening to the Giants, I'd have to think the Giants are NOT on the no-trade list. So, now who do the Giants have in the pitching department that the Cubs could use?

I'm not sure but if there is a 5% chance to get Bryce Harper to the Cubs, this is one of the only ways to free money easily.

I still say forget Harper. He is going to be a Philly. If the Cubs wanted to scrap salary, they should have gotten either Brantley or McCutchen if they were contemplating a Heyward trade. Pollock is still out there, but he isn't coming cheap. Descalso can play left field, as can Bote, but moving Heyward without a replacement right fielder creates a LOT of plying time for Zobrist and maybe Happ.

The part that gets me is that he said he has no intention of changing. Look, Manny, you aren't THAT good that you can dog running to first base.

It's pretty lazy to not run to first base. Only takes a few seconds a few times a game.

Unless the Yankees sign him, Machado would be the "face of the franchise" anywhere else. Imagine him going to the White Sox...Only the Yankees can blend him in. Making him the centerpiece will only make him worse to tolerate.

We all know he is probably headed to the Yankees. It just fits their image.

BINGO. But the again, he has a mutual interest with the Sox. He wants to be the center-piece and the Sox want a name or two to build a team around. I still see him in the Bronx though.

I know Machado and his offensive prowess doesn't fit the Cubs' plans but it's amazing that Russell with his crazy baggage and his mediocre stats is as of now.

I don't think Russell fits the Cubs' plans anymore, but I also think they are going to be stuck with him for a while. He has them backed into a corner at this point- I don't think they want him, they're not allowed to use him, and his trade value is in the tank. Where is Jerry Dipoto when you need him?
