Kris Bryant motivated

"This game is all about, 'What have you done for me lately,'" Bryant said. "And boy did I get to experience that last year. That's all I have to say about that."
But Bryant said more. A lot more.
"Definitely, a little bit," Bryant said when asked if he heard the criticism. "But, boy, it was great. When you're not playing, you have a whole lot of time to just sit there and either go through a Twitter rabbit hole and start seeing things about yourself, or seeing things about 'trade him' and this and that.
"And I'm like, 'All right, I'm motivated. Keep 'em coming. Bring it.'"
The negative stuff always stands out more," Bryant said. "Negativity sells. People want to read that stuff. I think that's why I'm at where I'm at in baseball. I read one thing and it just motivates me, and it [success] just shuts that person up or proves them wrong. I've been doing that my whole life, so bring it on."
The same goes for the Cubs, who also enter this season with doubters. Las Vegas oddsmakers project them to have their lowest win total in five seasons.
"We see some of these projections," Bryant said. "They are selling us totally short. That's not a good thing to do, because when our backs are against the wall, we turn it on. It's going to be an exciting season."

Bryant was definitely solid yesterday. Let's hope he keeps it up.

Batting 1.000 so far this spring. I'd settle for .305 over the course of the year though.

only a few hitters bat .300 nowadays for an entire season. I think 10-15 in the NL last season.

I assumed, as usual, you were wrong in your assessment of .300 hitters. Just kidding, I was unsure myself about how many hitters hit .300 compared to previous eras.
In checking back you can clearly see a defined timeline for the steroid era. Since 1950 baseball has averaged between 15 and 25 total .300 hitters for a season in both leagues combined. Some years a few more and some years a few less.
Suddenly between 1994 and 2009 MLB averaged 40, .300 hitters a year, and in 1999 and 2000 they had 55 and 53 respectively. Last year for example, there were only 16 players who hit .300+ in all of baseball.
So, for Kris Bryant to hit .300 in 2019, it would be awesome and likely a rarity. On average only 2-3% of MLB players do so each year.

But guys are still doing it, and if Bryant is an MVP caliber guy, he should be talented enough to be in the mix.

I agree. He's not a BA kind of hitter and he strikes out too much which increases the likelihood of not reaching .300. I'll take playing 155 games, hitting .275, driving in 115 runs and hitting 35 homers.

That would work out well for the Cubs if he had that kind of All-Star season. FYI I think he does.

I do like what I see so far. Dan's #'s are more realistic than mine, and would certainly be reasonable to obtain.
