Possible commentary idea?

Who would be the next Cubs Hall of Famer?
https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/cubs/searching-for-next-cubs-hall-famer
The only two guys that come to mind is probably Rizzo and KB if they keep playing for a decade or so and pile up the stats.
I guess Lester could factor into the mix if he stays healthy and pitches for several more years.
Fun topic to think about.

Baez for sure. Lester is another strong possibility, as is Rizzo.

Baez?! Bryant gets in before he does for sure. Rizzo is one of those Hall of really good guys but not quite HOF. Lester is the same unless he goes nuts in next two years.

Just depends on how long they produce those 30 homer years over the next decade. You just never know how these careers will unfold and how long they last.
Baez has had 1 good year only so he will need around 8-10 more of those before being considered realistically.
KB has the best shot of the group obviously.
Lester is not a HOFer but just depends on how durable and how long he wants to pitch that he might actually end up one. His .643 win percentage and 3.49 ERA is pretty good over 2,305 innings. If he can string along another 3-4 Lester seasons, it might be enough. Needs to get over the 200 win mark to be considered.

Hamels could make it as well. Lifetime: 156 wins, ERA 3.40, 2553 innings, .578 win %.

Forgot about Hamels. He needs to get to 200 wins to be a realistic shot at all.
However, regardless, he will be on the ballot since he has been a really good player for a long time. He would have to go crazy for the next five years to have a real shot.
Fun topic to project out player's career stats.

Not sure if the Cubs will keep Hamels beyond this year, but he seems happy here, and seems like he has settled in nicely. He wants to step up his leadership role this year, so that says he's comfortable with the team. Great addition, and I wish him well wherever he may finish out his career.

$20 million could have been spent elsewhere for the team so they are hoping for ace stuff from Hamels this season.
I think he will deliver FYI.

I think so as well. He turned it around when he came to Chicago.

By coming thru you mean he will be .500? Anything beyond that will be outstanding.

I think he'll do a lot better than .500.

I doubt they gave him that $20 million to go 12-12.
The expectations are for him to be one of the leaders of the staff alongside Jon Lester -- vocally and with his pitching performances.

I agree. They want wins out of him (more than 12), but he can only do so much if the offense fails to produce again.

I think 15 wins would be good...would mean he was healthy all season too.

I think 15 is reasonable- assuming he gets 30 starts.

Since you asked. My guess for Hamels this year is 9-12 before he goes on the DL.
