Cubs News: Baez on stealing home: "I'm glad I made it"

One of the plays of the season was Javy Baez's steal of home in the seventh inning of the team's 2-0 win on Sunday afternoon.

It was classic 'El Mago' has he executed a perfect theft of home as the lefty pitcher Steven Matz threw over to first base to check on Willson Contreras. The run broke a scoreless tie and was a heady play by everyone.

Baez spoke to the media following the game and described the exciting play.

"First move to the plate. He can’t see me," he said. "I was just seeing how high he was going with the leg. If he goes to the plate I would just come back to third base. He kinda took his time to go to first. I just went for it. I glad I make it."

Baez was asked if he would be watching the highlight play later tonight.

"Yeah, I would love to see myself."

Jon Lester had some kind things to say about Baez's abilities to the media following the game.

"Javy never really ceases to amaze anybody."
