WATCH: Bryant on his defense during final play in walk-off loss

by - Senior Editor -

Cubs nation watched the Cubs lose 4-3 in heartbreaking fashion as Christian Yelich beat out a grounder for the game-winning RBI on Monday afternoon.

Kris Bryant decided to go for the double play at third and first base instead of getting the lead runner at home plate.

Bryant spoke with the media following the tough loss and discussed the deciding play.

"It was like the perfect storm with a plus-plus runner at third, a plus runner hitting and it took me to third," he said. You just have to make a decision there, snap decision, and that's the one I think most third basemen would make going towards the bag."

Bryant knows that next time the double play might work out for the Cubs.

"I can totally live with that. I mean, it was a great play. It just happened to not work out in our favor," he said "But if it did, I look like a hero. It's funny how this works. Maybe the next time, take a shot throwing to home and hopefully we get them and live with that play, too."
