Cubs News: Zobrist on trade for Murphy: "We could use a little boost"

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs acquired infielder Daniel Murphy from the Washington Nationals on Tuesday.

Cubs second baseman Ben Zobrist was interviewed by the media on Tuesday and said that he is excited for the addition of Murphy to help boost the offense.

"I was surprised. I think everyone was, to get that great of an offensive player at this point in the season," Zobrist said. "I'm super excited. We'll find a way to make him fit in the lineup. It will be fun playing alongside of him. I think probably from the top down everyone is excited to have him on our side.

If we were killing it offensively, maybe we wouldn't be doing it but we haven't been. We could use a little boost. Hopefully, he can provide it for us."

Murphy has a .413 career batting average at Wrigley Field which is the highest in history ahead of No. 2 Eddie Murphy at .395.

Since June 26, Murphy has a .361 batting average which is fifth in the major leagues.
