Tonight's controversial play at home made me think of the Dez Bryant catch controversy from a years back because it's basically officials in a tough spot being a little too technical on a call that should be fairly discretionary. And there was no discretion whatsoever on that call. Definitely can't imagine that would've been overturned in the regular season. But, facing the pressure of a postseason game, umps caves and enforced the rule to the letter of the law.
Manfred has to say something about this and also open this rule up for possible amending in the offseason. No way that should've been a violation of the "Buster Posey Rule." Contreras wasn't even in the basepath. Not sure how a catcher is supposed to do his job if he can't protect home plate. Absolutely, positively stupid replay reversal tonight.
