Chicago Cubs (66-47) @ Kansas City Royals (34-79)

Jose Quintana (10-7, 4.12) vs. Heath Fillmyer (0-1, 3.86)

Finale of three-game series. Cubs shooting for sweep. Bote batting cleanup for Cubs after big game last night. Lefty-righty battle between Quintana and Fillmyer.

M1 — Slow-moving inning ends with no runs coming across. La Stella (who's playing after suffering injury in simulated game this afternoon) pops out to strand men on 2B & 3B.

M5 — Weird DP to end inning. Easy DP but bad throw at 1B sails into foul ground but bounces back toward 1B, who guns to 2B for tag out of Happ. Cubs still with just 1 hit so far.

M7 — Cubs strand 2 in 7th. Hit back-to-back 1-out singles but fail to get ball out of IF after that.

B7 — Quintana probably left in too long. He gives up 3-run HR to Mondesi after allowing 1st 2 batters of inning to single.

F — Cubs muster just 3 hits in game that lasts approximately 2 & a half hours. Royals score 7 runs in final 2 innings to pull away & avoid sweep. Cubs have yet to pull off sweep since All-Star break.
