Agree Ken...Good memories watching him play despite some bad Cubs teams.

A lot of people forget how great of player he was and how underrated he was. The Cubs acquired him at 19 or 20 years old back in 2003 and he immediately went right in the middle of that order with Sammy Sosa, Moises Alou and gave the Cubs some nice Fire power for their NLCS run. Who knew how valuable he would become. Injuries aside, Ramierez was the best defensive third basemen they have had since Santo and was a fixture in the middle of that lineup for 7 years. You could count on him to hit 280 consistently with 30 homers and 100 RBI's. Those are Numbers Bryant has lived up in just three of his six seasons and something the Cubs would kill to have now.

World series aside, if you look at the Cubs NLCS roster from 2003, NLDS roster in 2008 and the WS roster of 2016, that 2016 lineup may have been the worst out of the three in terms of hitting. Yes they hit more home runs and drew walks, but not one single player hit 300.

2003 you had guys like Kenny Lofton hitting 307, Sammy Sosa hitting 285, Alou 283, Ramierez 281, Mark Grudzielanek 298 and Randall Simon hitting 276 all in your every day starting lineup.

Then you go to 2008 where you had Geovany Soto 283, Derrek Lee 287, Mark DeRosa 278, Ryan Theriot 289, Ramierez 284 all in your lineup.

Then look at the 2016 Cubs: Miguel Montero 248, David Ross 232, Anthony Rizzo 284, Ben Zobrist 270, Addison Russell 238, Kris Bryant 289, Dexter Fowler 268, Jorge Soler 256, Jason Heyward 233. The numbers speak for themeselves. They only care about home runs now as opposed to just letting the game come to them

Totally agree Dustin. Somewhere along the way it became more about launch angle instead of contact to all fields. Hopefully we change hitting philosophies for 2021.

I remember when it was getting on base was a thing. I wish the Cubs would not swing out of their shoes with two strikes and/or 3-0 counts.

They never should have let John Mallee walk. Yes the team still struck out a lot, but they took more walks hit the ball to all fields and did more with what they had. The coaching staff we had in 2016 never should have been let go
