Adam Wainwright (3-2, 3.73) vs. Jose Quintana (3-1, 3.48)
Series finale at the Friendly Confines. Cubs shooting for a 3-game sweep. Quintana, who was been pitching really well as of late, starting on the bump for Chicago.

I love the improvement of the Cubs defense these past three weeks. One of the unsung keys to their winning the series in 2016 was they were top 3 in defense.

and people are left saying well how exactly did we end up winning that game. sometimes it's not the homeruns, but the plays like that on carpenter.

This series has been like a tonic for the Cubs. They are clicking on all cylinders and look like the team I was expecting them to be this year. Timely offense, solid defense, and fantastic pitching all around by the staff. Has the feel of a special year starting to take shape.

And just like that the defense takes a nap. Almora miss plays the fly ball and then Baez tries to get cute by flipping the ball to Bote who was not looking for that and two runs in and molina raises his BA against the Cubs to an even .995

We have years of history with Molina. Until he retires, which seems like it will be never, when he comes up we should either hit him or walk him.

M6 — Contreras nearly ended the threat with a perfect pickoff throw to Rizzo at 1B to get Fowler. Originally called an out. Cards challenged, & call overturned. Fowler barely got back in time. Wong grounded out to end inning soon afterward.

B6 — Cards probably should've pulled Wainwright after he gave up back-to-back singles to start B6. Works out for Cubs, though, as Rizzo smacks RBI double to the wall in right-center. Cubs back up by 3. Wainwright coming out.

B6 — Basically addition by subtraction for Cubs. Baez hits comebacker to pitcher that results in Rizzo being tagged out in rundown between 2B & 3B. Meanwhile, the wily Baez reaches 2B. So a faster runner's now on 2B for the Cubs.
