Chicago Cubs (39-31) @ Los Angeles Dodgers (47-24)

Jose Quintana (4-6, 3.89) vs. Hyun-Jin Ryu (9-1, 1.36)

Series finale of 4-game set. Cubs need to win to earn series split. Ryu (who's arguably the NL Cy Young frontrunner at this point) set to toe the rubber for the Dodgers tonight.

M1 — Cubs get a couple of a 2-out singles off Ryu, but the ace forces an inning-ending groundout after that. Ryu has been as good as any pitcher in baseball with runners on base with 2 outs this season.

E1 — Command issues for Q in the opening frame. 3 straight walks, including 1 that forced in a run. Long 2-out rally for the Dodgers results in them taking 1-0 lead.

E2 — Hernandez very nearly hits a towering HR, but it goes barely foul down LF side. He then gets 2-out single, but Q forces inning-ending flyout.

T6 — Great baserunning by Javy puts Cubs in position to tie game. He risks it on a bloop single to shallow right-center & motors from 1B to 3B before the ball falls.

M6 — Heyward strikes out to end inning. Both of the runs scored off Ryu are unearned, as they were sparked by throwing error suffered by Turner on Javy's leadoff at-bat.

E6 — Disaster averted by Kintzler & Collins out of Cubs' bullpen. After tying game, Dodgers got runners on 2B & 3B with 0 outs, but were unable to score again.

T9 — Schwarber grounds out. Dodgers first baseman considered going to 2B but decided it was too risky. Only the out at 1B recorded. Cubs now have men on 2B & 3B with 1 out.

T9 — Understandable send doesn't pay off for Cubs. Almora goes home on dribbler that Jansen fields near 1B line. Martin applies easy tag on Almora's leg as he slides in. Cubs down to their final out with runners on the corners. They need a run.

F — Game over. After Descalso takes 2B without facing a throw, Javy had a chance with a 1-2 count to tab a go-ahead hit. Valiant effort from Javy, but his liner to CF is caught by a diving Verdugo. Great catch to end game. No blown save for Jansen tonight. Dodgers take 3 of 4.
