They didn't extend. I'm sorry they made that choice but thats the way it goes. In the modern game, dominance is measured in long term success, Joe's leadership gave the Cubs, not only the series but an entire tenure where they had a shot. Losing those 9 was miserable, handing our shot basically to the Brewers and Cards is a very hard pill however I don't think losing the guy who had the team in position to even do that, despite injury and diminishing player performance is a good answer. We bought some contracts that didn't work, Jason Heyward, the antics of Addison Russell, pitchers who never threw and inning, Once quality bullpen assets that lost it...those are player performance issues, getting the team in position by player usage, to have a shot is the managers.
