They're both good. Think about it... if teams have an average of even 7 farm teams with 25 guys each, that's 175 guys, now multiply that by 30 teams... 5,250 prospects in the MLB system, and two of the Cubs' prospects are in the top 100. That's really impressive.

Or to simplify, you can just think there are 30 MLB teams and 100 top prospects. On average, a team should have 3.33 prospects on the Top 100.
The Cubs' two prospects in the list is not that great. 4 would be above average.

I never thought of it that way, but you are right. Either way, I'll bet you see Hoerner in Chicago by the 2020 season, sooner if something happens with Russell or Baez.

Cubs are heading for disaster over the next 2-3 years. half the team gains free-agency by 2021.

There is always a lot of turnover on MLB rosters. New guys will be evaluated and they will come in and everything will be OK.

Most veteran players get 3-year contracts or less nowadays so there will always be mass turnover over a 3-year timeframe.
The key is evaluating the talent and when to keep a player and when to cut ties at the right time with regards to finances and ability.

Cubs have been very stern about keeping the nucleus together, but I don't see how they will keep all of the bigger names when they hit free agency. Bryant and Baez are due at the same time- that alone will be HUGE money.

Bryant will test free agency (Scott Boras helping) and might be headed to Boston, etc.
The Cubs won't be able to keep everyone that has talent. That is just how it goes. They will have backup plans if he or they decide to part ways. It's not like they are going to be caught off guard with any moves.
They will keep the core while they are young and cheap relative speaking. Once they get their big contracts, they will have to pick and choose, unfortunately.

You now they'll move Russell and Schwarber for sure when they hit FA. I wouldn't be surprised to see them move Heyward sooner than later (via trade) if he bounces back this year. That contract is killing them. You also know Chatwood will be a goner.

All those guys are gone for sure besides maybe Schwarber.
If he ever reaches his 40 homer potential in the next few years, they would likely keep him as he is a fan favorite.

It is important for each team to have at least 2 blue chip players. Those are the guys you build your next group around. Then you need about 6 guys that are 4A level players that you can trade to another team for someone better.
The Cubs are Ok in the blue chip area but really need bodies in the 4A level to go get some guys when you need them in a pennant race.
