I get that Russell/Descalso/Bote/Zo has had a very rough year.

However, I do like the potential of Russell and Bote as a 1-2 punch a lot if they get the reps. They will eventually get hot. You would think so. (Russell .348 last 7 games)

Descalso just needs to refund the Cubs and watch games from the stands. Occasionally late inning pinch hitter.

It also would be interesting to see how Bote fared as a regular starter for the first time. He's showed flashes of brilliance, but lacking a regular starting spot has likely caused the occasional dips of production that have frequented Bote's Cubs tenure.

I think the Cubs got a steal with that long-term contract with Bote. Hopefully, he will prove it this season and not starting 3 years from now.
