Tyson Ross (6-8, 4.41) vs. Jose Quintana (9-7, 4.26)

Second installment of four-game series. Quintana coming off bad start. Contreras and Russell not starting for Cubs.

E5 — Eventful inning. La Stella comes home to score on Zobrist grounder. Close call but ruled safe. Padres had no challenges. Rizzo advanced to 3B but was sent back to 2B by umpires because of confusion over time being called.

The one benefit of Bryant's injury-plagued season has been the ascension of Bote. He's progressed leaps & bounds offensively & defensively.

F — Strop stays composed & gets big game-ending K. He then lets it all out with several celebratory fist pumps. He also salutes Bote, who saved the game for the Cubs with his great throw home. Cubs survive scary 9th inning. Baez's 8th-inning triple ends up being the winning hit.
