What the starting lineup SHOULD look like!

My thoughts as to when Bryant and Darvish come back ...

A change to the lineup ... this is how it should go down, in my humble opinion ...

1) Baez 2B
2) Bryant LF
3) Rizzo 1B
4) Bote 3B
5) Zobrist or Almora CF
6) Heyward or Zobrist RF (rotate Zo, Almora and Heyward out once every three games)
7) Contreras C
8) Russell SS
9) Pitcher

Designate Schwarber as DH or PH, LaStella and Happ as PH.

Starting pitching:

1) Hamels
2) Lester
3) Montgomery
4) Hendricks
5) Darvish

If Darvish does OK, designate the unsteady Quintana out of the starting lineup and into the bullpen. Do NOT invite Chatwood onto the playoff roster, assuming that we make the playoffs that is.

Just my two cents worth!

Interesting lineup choices...I certainly ready for Rizzo to get out of the leadoff spot as well as Bryant returning.

That definitely reads as a solid batting order. The primary caveat is that Maddon has shown no signs of wanting to stick with a steady batting order, and one could argue that his reluctance to do so is starting to seriously hurt the Cubs. Offensive inconsistency has plagued the Cubs since they returned from the All-Star break, and Maddon's only adjustment related to the batting order has been something as unorthodox as making a lumbering, 240-pound first baseman the everyday leadoff hitter.

A couple of thoughts.

Baez has no pitch selection so making him a leadoff hitter is issue number one.
Bryant in LF is inviting him to re-injure his shoulder and makes me nervous.
I believe you will see Zo in the outfield more, especially in the playoffs early innings.
Bote will not be starting more than once a week when Bryant comes back.
Montgomery will stay in the pen once Darvish comes back.

Good take...The Cubs need Darvish, Bryant, and Morrow back ASAP.

The leadoff hitter argument is certainly a tough one. Almora seemed like the most logical candidate for becoming the everyday leadoff man when he was tearing it up the first few months of the season, but Maddon's insistence on playing Happ on a regular basis seemed to waste Almora's momentum.

Not bad but not sure about Baez at leadoff.
