My guess is that he improves in 2019- not so much in fielding or base running- hard to improve on those, but I think his bat will come alive.

I think his defense can be improved, sometimes he doesn't make the routine throws to first base cause he takes his footwork for granted.
It will be interesting to see how he performs if he gets the majority of SS starts in the beginning of the season with Russell's issues.

Unless they sign Tulowiztki or Galvis, Baez IS the Cubs' SS for at least the first month of 2019.

For $600k and not having to see Russell, I think he's a wonderful choice. Gives them leadership depth and a versatile guy for pennies on the dollar compared to Machado or even Galvis.

600K is literally the minimum so to get a veteran who might have a comeback season, would be worth the risk for just about any team as long as they have a roster spot.
