This is actually a valid question. Maddon's philosophy of avoiding lengthy appearances by his starters (which has been a fixture of his Cubs tenure) may have to come to a screeching halt if these bullpen issues carry forward. The Cubs have had a bevy of reliable relievers in recent years (definitely more than most teams), but that doesn't appear to be the case early on this season. Therefore, starters will need to go longer.

Especially considering that Darvish is the member of the rotation that needs as many quality innings of work as possible early on this season to get in a groove after last season's disastrous season for him.
