Thoughts on Lackey Decision

The Dodgers used Kenley Jansen in the ninth, even though a save wasn't on the line, because the game was potentially on the line. Because it's the playoffs, and winning is all that matters. And, lo and behold, the decision to put Jansen in paid off for the Dodgers.

The Cubs did not use Wade Davis in the ninth when the game was legitimately on the line, and it did not pay off. And, now, the Cubs are in a 0-2 hole.

Instead, Joe Maddon opted to use the pitcher more apt to give up homers than any other pitcher on the Cubs' roster (John Lackey). So I don't need to elaborate on the stupidity of that decision.

Maddon thinks that he needed Davis for the save, but that's irrelevant. With two outs and the winning run for the Dodgers in scoring position, if you're going to bring anybody in from that bullpen (instead of letting Duensing continue), you have to go with literally the only arm in the bullpen who has been consistently trustworthy in tight spots this season. Not a washed-up starter being relegated to coming out of the bullpen. Case closed.

Terrible decision. Lackey is home run giving up machine. That was the game right there. If you are going to lose, lose with your best. If the Cubs could have pulled that game off this is a totally different series.

I agree with those comments. You go down with your best. He was hoping to get lucky with Lackey but it backfired and will probably cost them the series.
