Spencer Patton, a native of Urbana, Ill., was acquired by Chicago in November of 2015 from Texas for infielder Frandy De La Rosa ... Spencer broke into the majors with the Rangers in 2014 and went 1-0 with a 0.96 ERA (1 ER/9.1 IP) in nine relief appearances before splitting 2015 between the Rangers and Triple-A Round Rock. Is 2-1 with a 6.75 ERA (25 ER/33.1 IP) in 36 career major league relief appearances the last two seasons, averaging more than one strikeout per inning with 36 strikeouts in 33.1 frames. Owns a 15-14 record with 33 saves and a 3.49 ERA (104 ER/268.1 IP) in 147 career minor league outings, all but 12 in relief, covering five seasons ... has struck out 364 batters in 268.1 innings, an average of 12.2 strikeouts per 9.0 innings. Named a 2014 mid-season Pacific Coast League All-Star. Selected by Kansas City in the 24th round of the 2011 Draft out of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville ... was acquired by Texas for righthander Jason Frasor, July 16, 2014. Pitched three seasons at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a record of 13-10 in 36 games (30 starts) ... his 109 strikeouts were second-most in school history while his 13 wins ranked third. Earned Co-Player of the Year honors in the Coastal Plains Summer League in 2009. Attended Parkland College in Champaign, Ill., earning an associate degree in science in 2008. Lettered four times in baseball and three in basketball at South Central High in Farina, Ill., while he graduated in 2006 ... was third team all-state in basketball and baseball MVP his senior year.
