PHILADELPHIA – The Chicago Cubs today announced the following roster moves for September 1: infielders Kris Bryant and Addison Russell have been activated off of the 10-day disabled list; right-handed pitcher James Norwood has been recalled from Triple-A Iowa; and outfielder Terrance Gore and catcher Taylor Davis have been selected from Triple-A Iowa.

To make room for Gore (uniform number one) and Davis (uniform number 53) on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Luke Farrell and left-handed pitcher Rob Zastryzny have been designated for assignment. Chicago’s active roster now stands at 30 players.

All five players will be available for the Cubs tonight when they continue their three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Bryant, 26, is batting .276 (84-for-304) with 21 doubles, 11 home runs and 44 RBI in 76 games for the Cubs this season. He was placed on the 10-day disabled list on July 26 (retro to July 24) with left shoulder inflammation and played in four rehab games with Iowa as part of his return, going 2-for-10 with an RBI in those games from last Monday-Thursday. This was Bryant’s second stint on the disabled list for shoulder inflammation this season, as he also missed time on the 10-day D.L. from June 26-July 11, marking his first times sidelined during his four-year major league career.

Russell, 24, was placed on the 10-day disabled list on August 22 (retro to August 20) with a sprained left middle finger and did not require a rehab assignment as part of his return. He is batting .259 (99-for-382) with 21 doubles, five homers and 37 RBI in 112 games with the Cubs this season. According to Baseball-Reference, Russell ranks fourth in the National League with a 2.0 Defensive WAR this year.

Davis, 28, batted .275 (98-for-356) with 18 doubles, four homers and 41 RBI in 107 games with Iowa this season. He played 67 games at catcher, 24 games at first base and 12 games at third base this year. Davis made his big league debut with the Cubs last year, batting .231 (3-for-13) with one double and one RBI in eight games. The right-handed batter was originally signed by the Cubs as a minor league free agent on July 11, 2011.

Gore, 27, was acquired from the Kansas City Royals in a minor league trade on August 15 and made his debut with Iowa the following day. Overall, Gore has played in 11 games with Iowa and recorded five stolen bases while going 4-for-34 (.118) at the plate. Gore has played parts of four seasons in the majors with Kansas City (2014-17), recording 21 stolen bases in 25 attempts (84 percent success rate) with 14 runs scored while going a combined 0-for-11 at the plate.

Norwood, 24, made his big league debut with the Cubs in July and has gone 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA (3 ER/5.2 IP) in five relief appearances with the Cubs this year. Norwood went 2-3 with two saves and a 2.50 ERA (14 ER/50.1 IP) in 40 relief appearances between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa this season. With Iowa, he went 1-1 with a 2.55 ERA (5 ER/17.2 IP) in 15 relief appearances while limiting foes to a .180 batting average.

Farrell, 27, went 3-4 with a 5.17 ERA (18 ER/31.1 IP) in 20 appearances, including two starts, with the Cubs this season. With Iowa, Farrell went 1-4 with a 3.64 ERA (22 ER/54.1 IP) in 12 starts with Iowa this year.

Zastryzny, 26, went 1-0 with a 4.76 ERA (3 ER/5.2 IP) in six relief outings with the Cubs this year. With Iowa, Zastryzny went 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA (24 ER/56.0 IP) in 33 appearances, all but one in relief.
