It's official: Cubs-Cards series postponed due to 3 more positive COVID-19 cases |
The Office of the Commissioner has been informed that a St. Louis Cardinals staff member and two players tested positive from samples collected over the last two days. Out of an abundance of caution, and to ensure that all infected Cardinal players and staff members have been identified, the games between the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium on Saturday, August 8th and Sunday, August 9th have been postponed.
Major League Baseball will continue to provide updates as they become available. Mozeliak: "I don't know what our future looks like at this point. For all the optimism we had a couple days ago, its frustrating for everyone involved." Cards have 3 more positives over the last 2 days. Total now up to 16, per Mozeliak. The #Cubs now will turn around and head back to Chicago for the weekend while the #STLCards will have to figure out how to play 55 games in 49 days. Mozeliak believes the new positives probably came from when they were in Milwaukee and not since leaving but showed up in last couple days....but no one knows for sure. Mozeliak on the Cards playing 60 games: "Mathematically that would seem challenging. " Probably have never heard an executive as despondent as John Mozeliak just now on a zoom call with reporters. For good reason. And he has no idea what tomorrow will bring.
