This week in Chicago Cubs history

by - Correspondent -

Every week we will look at historical dates of a given week and pick out a few that stand out to us. This week in Cubs history is all about a two letter word, NO.

On August 30th, 2015 Jake Arrieta recorded his first career no-hitter and his 17th win of th season against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Chavez Ravine. The no hitter was the second time the Dodgers were no-hit in a 10-day span. Arrieta's incredible pitching performace added to his amazing second half and solidifying himself as the National League Cy Young winner in 2015. It was the 14th no-hitter in Cubs history.

On September 2nd, 1972 Cubs Pitcher Milt Pappas took a perfect game into the 9th inning. In fact, he retired 26 of 26 Padres batters before issuing a walk with two outs. Pappas then retired the next batter, Gary Jestadt, to complete the 8-0 win and the no hit game.

It is worth noting with all that is going on in the world that these two Cubs no hitters sandwich another one. On September 14th, 2008 Carlos Zambrano threw a no hitter against the Houston Astros. A game that took place at Miller Park due to a hurricane running through the state of Texas. The Astros appealed the game because they felt the game could have been played at Minute Maid to no avail.
