Cubs News: Addison Russell injury update

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell has been on the 10-day disabled list with a right foot plantar fasciitis injury since the beginning of August.

Russell spoke with reporters on Friday afternoon and said that he's "game ready" and hope to be activated for this weekend's series against the St. Louis Cardinals. He said that he is feeling good and has no pain in his foot anymore.

Maddon told reporters on Friday that Russell has one more workout scheduled for Saturday.

"He is pretty close. He'll get another workout in and we'll make a determination," Maddon said.

In 2017, Russell is batting .241 with 10 homers and 36 RBI. For his short MLB career, he is a .240 hitter with 44 homers, 185 RBI, and .312 on-base percentage.

During his absence, Javy Baez has done an exceptional job filling in at shortstop but has not much time off. If the Cubs can get back Russell and righty Jake Arrieta back in the fold, the Cubs should make a nice push in the final few weeks of the regular season.
