Cubs News: Addison Russell injury update

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell left Sunday's game in the sixth inning with a middle left finger contusion (bruise) when he was injured on a swing during the fifth inning.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon updated his young shortstop's injury status.

"He's feeling pretty good," Maddon said Wednesday to the media. "We'll evaluate after he plays catch and then try to figure out [Wednesday] or the next day. It really is one day at a time, but he felt better than he thought he would.

Maddon still thinks there is a chance that he lands on the 10-day disabled list.

"The DL is still a possibility," he said. "If he comes through this as well as he thinks he is, it may not be."

The good news is that Russell was able to take batting practice today so it can't be too serious of an injury.

For the season, Russell is batting .272 with 2 homers and 14 RBIs.
