Cubs News: Addison Russell leaves game with injury

by - Senior Editor -

This is not great news for the Cubs.

Starting shortstop Addison Russell left Sunday's game in the sixth inning with a left-hand injury. Cubs officials announced during the game that it was a middle finger contusion (bruise) as it was injured on a swing during the fifth inning.

Javy Baez moved to shortstop to replace Russell on the diamond.

Hopefully, Cubs manager Joe Maddon will update Russell's condition after the game and whether an MRI is needed.

Update: Russell spoke to the media after the game and he said that he injury happened during his second at-bat and he hopes to miss only a couple of days.
