Cubs News: Almora Jr. would love reunion with Manny Machado: "Would be special"

One of baseball's biggest superstars might be on the market shortly as the Orioles' Manny Machado will be inevitably shopped as his team flounders 15.5 games back of the Yankees.

According to a recent article by the Chicago Sun-times, the Cubs will look into acquiring the star SS/3B.

"But after checking in on his availability during the winter, the Cubs expect to talk to the Orioles about Machado again when the worst team in the American League inevitably makes the pending free agent available in the coming weeks, insiders say," Sun-times said.

The future 26-year free agent to be will probably be asking for an eight-year, $300 million contract during the offseason as he is a star infielder that can hit with plus average and tremendous power.

Cubs centerfielder Albert Almora Jr. would love to see a reunion with his former childhood teammate in Miami.

"That would be special," Almora Jr. said. "It’s something we’ve always talked about growing up. We were always so confident. We always said, Man, we’ve got to try to play together in our careers one day," he said.

Almora Jr. added that he will need to get in the ear of Cubs President Theo Epstein.

"I’ll have to start sweet-talking Theo a little bit and see what we can do," Almora said. "Obviously, our team is unbelievable as it is right now. But it would be something that our families and ourselves would really love to see, being in the same uniform. That’d be cool, man."

Of course, any deal involving Machado would likely include shortstop Addison Russell who is still under control with the Cubs for three more seasons.
