Almora on Hamel's comments about Brewers fans: "He wasn't lying"

by - Senior Editor -

Cubs veteran pitcher Cole Hamels had a strong take on the Cubs-Brewers rivalry from what he witnessed at 'Wrigley North' during the team's 4-3 loss on Monday.

"When you have a majority Cubs fans in the stands, I don't know if that's a rivalry yet," he said. "I've been in rivalries. They're not gonna like me for the comment but you can look at the ticket sales.

Cubs centerfielder Albert Almora Jr. was on the McNeil & Parkins Show on Tuesday afternoon and agreed with Hamels.

"He wasn't lying," he said. "I mean, right off the bat, when (lead-off hitter Daniel Murphy) hit that first pitch in that first at-bat to the warning track, that stadium erupted. And you could see the expressions on the Brewers' faces, like, 'Wow, that got loud and it got loud for (the Cubs).

Almora thinks the rivalry will continue to grow as both teams will be solid for a while.

"Obviously, this rivalry's going to grow. I think they're going to be good for a while, I think we're going to be good for a while."
