Cubs News: Bryant updates the status of his rehabbed shoulder

by - Senior Editor -

Cubs standout third baseman Kris Bryant is almost ready to be activated from the 10-day disabled list with his right shoulder inflammation injury.

During Monday night's rehab assignment with the Tennessee Smokies, Bryant went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs including a two-run homer. In 2014 for the Smokies, he hit .355 with 22 homers in 68 games before being promoted to Triple-A Iowa.

Bryant spoke to reporters before Monday's game against the Montgomery Biscuits.

"It's responded great. I think we've really strengthened it and gotten it to where it needs to be," Bryant said via MLB.com. "Taking two weeks off is tough. It's hard to get thrown right back into the fire like that. I thought coming down here and taking some at-bats in a no-pressure environment -- obviously, I would love to help the team win -- but for me, I just want to get that timing back."

Without Bryant in the lineup on Tuesday night, the Cubs succumbed to the Giants 2-1 in extra-innings at AT&T Park.

Bryant is expected to play Tuesday for the Smokies before his return to the big league club.

For the season, Bryant is batting .280 with 20 doubles, three triples, nine homers and 36 RBI in 66 games this season.
