Contreras defends Quintana over 'Pitched like a Buick' remark
It's the one-year anniversary of the Jose Quintana crosstown trade involving the White Sox and the Cubs.
The media and fans love to dissect trades especially ones that include a package of four prospects including two elite ones in outfielder Eloy Jimenez and pitcher Dylan Cease.
NBC Sports Chicago analyst David Kaplan said the following about Quintana recently.
"The Cubs paid the price to acquire a Mercedes and Quintana has pitched like a Buick much of the time," he said. "Not that a Buick isn’t a nice car, but you don’t pay big bucks to drive a car that isn’t special."
That statement was heard by Cubs All-Star catcher Willson Contreras and he was quick to come to the aid of his beloved teammate.
"Many people like to talk trash, but 100% of trash talkers are unable to do what Quintana can do," he said. "For me Quintana is not a Mercedes, he is a Ferrari because every time that he goes to the mound to pitch it does with the heart and with the desire to give the team W."
