Cubs deny rumors on signing Yu Darvish

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs have been making several moves in stabilizing their starting rotation and bullpen for 2018 and beyond.

A rumor that circulated around the Internet on Thursday afternoon was that the No. 1 free agent pitcher on the market Yu Darvish had signed with the Cubs pending a physical. However, these reports are not true as the Cubs deny the rumor. I repeat the rumors are not true about Darvish to the Cubs.

The Athletic Sahadev Sharma was told that the rumor was "complete and utter fabrication." This doesn't that Darvish and the Cubs won't reach an agreement later in the week but as of right now there is nothing.

Even Yu Darvish himself responded to the rumors with the following tweet.

Cubs executives Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer traveled to Dallas, Tx. on Monday to meet with the four-time All-Star for 3.5 hours.

For the 2017 season, Darvish was 10-12 with 3.86 ERA with 209 strikeouts and 1.16 WHIP. During his MLB career, Darvish is 56-42 with 3.42 ERA with 1021 strikeouts and 1.18 WHIP.

Recently, the Cubs may have shifted from trying to sign free agent pitcher Alex Cobb after his reported $18 million price tag per season that his agent has been trying to get from various teams including the Cubs and Yankees.

Since Darvish was part of a midseason trade, the team that signs him will not have to give up a draft pick for compensation.
