Cubs fan wearing bucket after pin nailed him: "Could've been fatal"

Sometimes it's good to be lucky or at least wear your favorite rally cap.

A 19-year old Chicago Cubs fan named Kyle McAleer was hit by a 6-to-8 inch metal pin that fastens score tiles from the Wrigley Field scoreboard while sitting in the centerfield bleachers during a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 24.

The reason that he escaped severe injuries was that he was wearing a bubble gum container that he was using as a rally bucket that was often used by Starlin Castro in the 2015 season.

McAleer believes that the bucket on his head saved his life.

“Absolutely,” he said via the Chicago Tribune. ‘It’s purely speculation, but the way it hit me. … If the Cubs weren’t losing, I would not have been wearing that bucket. It might’ve fractured my skull. It definitely could’ve been fatal. I am extremely lucky.”

He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center and acquired five staples to close a gash in his head.

According to the article, McAleer received some gifts from the Cubs including an Addison Russell jersey.
