Cubs lineup vs. Mets, Baez at cleanup

The Cubs are 16-8 in August and hope to keep the fun times rolling tonight with a superb pitching matchup with Cole Hamels against Jacob deGrom.

Tuesday night's batting lineup for the game between the Cubs (77-53) and the Mets (58-73) at 7:05 p.m. CDT will be the following:

1. Daniel Murphy 2B

2. Anthony Rizzo 1B

3. Jason Heyward RF

4. Javier Baez SS

5. Victor Caratini C

6. Kyle Schwarber LF

7. Albert Almora Jr. CF

8. Cole Hamels P

9. David Bote 3B

It will be a pitching battle between Hamels (9-9, 3.82 ERA) and righty Jacob deGrom (8-8, 1.71). Hamels has a 4-1 record with a 1.58 ERA in 8 career starts at Wrigley Field.

Rizzo moves up to the No. 2 spot because he is a lifetime .375 hitter against deGrom and Heyward is at No. 3 spot with his .389 lifetime average against the ace pitcher. In other lineup news, Contreras gets the day off as Caratini catches for Hamels.

In stats news, Murphy has scored six runs in the first six games with his new ballclub. With regards to deGrom, he has a 4-for-15 career average against him. According to Ed Hartig, Muphy joins Mark Grudzielanek as the only Cub since 1907 with a base hit and run scored in each of their first six games with the ballclub.

The Cubs-Reds game will be televised on WGN-TV.
