Cubs place Brandon Morrow on DL |
The Chicago Cubs have placed closer
Brandon Morrow on the disabled list with a lower back tightness retroactive to June 17.
Reliever Justin Hancock who was used as the 26th man for the doubleheader on Tuesday will stay on the team and take Morrow's roster spot. He has no record with a 1.64 ERA in eight appearances this season. Morrow said during Tuesday's postgame that his back tightened up on him after the team got back from St. Louis on Monday. "I was taking my pants off after getting home at 3 a.m," Morrows said to the media. "Got my right leg off. My left one, I felt spasms in my back." Morrow has been pretty much automatic in save situations this season as the team's closer going 16-for-17 (5th in NL) but has not pitched since June 7. Overall, he has a 1.59 ERA in 26 relief appearances this season. The #Cubs today placed RHP Brandon Morrow on the 10-day DL (retroactive to June 17) with lower back tightness. #Cubs closer Brandon Morrow has been placed on the 10-day DL for an injury suffered while taking his pants off.
