Cubs receive bad news on Javy Baez's injury

by - Senior Editor -

El Mago is going to be sidelined for a while.

Cubs shortstop Javy Baez's MRB revealed a hairline fracture on his left thumb that he suffered last Sunday against the Brewers.

Baez will go see a hand specialist on Monday to determine the timeline for his recovery. He is more than likely out at least a few weeks (or the season) because your thumb is so vital for your grip holding a baseball or a bat.

For the season, he is batting .281 with 29 homers and 85 RBI.

"It’s a tough blow,” Rizzo told the Media Saturday. "He’s a perennial All-Star. It’s not easy. But we can’t hang our heads."

Cubs shortstop Addison Russell will start tonight's game against the Brewers and will likely be in a very prominent role with 'El Mago' on the shelf.
