Cubs reportedly "still in" on Manny Machado sweepstakes

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs have had a busy offseason addressing their bullpen and adding depth to their starting rotation.

However, they haven't really done much with their positional players. 670 The Score’s Bruce Levine reported that both the White Sox and Cubs are "still in" on conversations about Manny Machado.

Rumors have been floating around that Addison Russell might be a piece in any Machado trade. I doubt the Cubs will trade Russell with him having four more cost-controlled years in the future. All of this is really interesting though because it shows that Cubs management does their due diligence and discusses every imaginable roster move.

In 2017, Machado batted .259 with 33 homers, 95 RBIs, and .310 on-base percentage. In his five-year pro career, he has a .279 average with 138 home runs with 406 RBIs.

The 25-year old third baseman is in his last year of his contract with the Orioles and they are trying to move him before he walks and they get nothing in return. He has said that he wants to play shortstop when he plays for his next ballclub.
