Cubs reportedly to tender contract to Addison Russell

by - Senior Editor -

The relationship will Addison Russell and the Cubs might not be over.

According to 670 The Score's Bruce Levine on Friday, the Cubs are keeping Russell.

"Cubs likely to tender Addison Russell a contract," he posted. "He still has 29 days of a suspension to serve at beginning of the season. He is not paid until after May 3."

This doesn't mean that he won't get traded down the line as the Cubs might keep him around to see his trade value rise while waiting for their infield to be finalized.

Russell is projected to earn around $4.3 million with arbitration in 2019 which is his second of four arbitration-eligible years.

The 24-year old has been suspended 40-games without pay, retroactive to September 21 for violating Major League Baseball's Joint Domestic Violence Policy. He will be available to play around May 1 next season.

In 2018, he hit .250 with five homers and 38 RBIs in 130 games.
