Cubs reportedly willing to bring back Arrieta for over $100 million

by - Senior Editor -

Jake Arrieta is still a real possibility in Chicago.

The latest news from USA TODAY's Bob Nightengale is that the Cubs are still interested in the veteran righty since they have had no traction with starters Alex Cobb, Chris Archer, and others.

"Oh sure, the Chicago Cubs still need a front-line starter, and would be willing to bring back Arrieta on a four-year deal for about $110 million, but sorry, they refuse to dish out a six-year deal," Nightengale said.

The longer that Arrieta sits the free agent market, makes it more and more likely that the Cubs will have a shot at Arrieta with a four-year deal.

Arrieta rejected the Cubs $17.4 million qualifying offer back in November.

In 2017, Arrieta had a 14-10 record with 3.53 ERA, 163 strikeouts, and 1.22 WHIP.
