ESPN discusses trading Schwarber for pitching

by - Senior Editor -

The offseason is currently underway as free agents and teams try to work together on their future plans.

The Cubs have not made many moves but the Winter meetings have not even yet taken place.

ESPN recently discussed the Cubs' situation and said that the Cubs might be ready to trade one of their young outfielders or Addison Russell.

"Signing one of the big free agents seems unlikely given the team's current payroll, so maybe there's a trade with the Cubs dealing Schwarber, Happ or Addison Russell for a young, cost-effective reliever," ESPN.com's David Schoenfield wrote. "Diaz would be the perfect fit, but the Mariners don't seem to be shopping him around."

All three players could be expendable if the Cubs are serious in getting involved in the Bryce Harper sweepstakes.

Schwarber would be the toughest pill to swallow for the Cubs fanbase with his tremendous power, work ethic, and his efforts in the community.

In 2018, he batted .238 with 26 homers and 61 RBIs.
