Cubs News: Epstein on offense: "It has to be more about production than talent" |
Chicago Cubs President of Operations
Theo Epstein held his end-of-year press conference recently discussing various topics including the Cubs' offensive woes.
"It has to be more about production than talent," he said. "Beyond that, it's also trying to understand why we are not where we should be with some individual players. Players that do certain things at 22 and 23 should be progressing to a better and more productive phase of their career at 24, 25, 26. It is our job not to just assemble a talented group but unearth that talent and have it manifest on the field. That's ultimately all that matters. Are we doing everything that we can creating just the right situation to get the most out of these guys?" Despite having several talented hitters with power, the Cubs lead the major leagues with 2,055 ground ball outs in 2018. Production > Talent
