Cubs News: Epstein on right deal: "We have major league talent to move"

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs President of Operations Theo Epstein held his annual press conference after the season on Friday afternoon and shared that he will do whatever it takes to improve his ballclub that just went to three NLCS series in a row.

Epstein will be entertaining offers for players on the major league roster if it will help the team's future.

“I certainly think we have major league talent to move if we are able to find the right deals,” Epstein said via CBS Chicago. “I believe we have plenty of good prospects to move as well. They may not be headline guys, but there are certain trades to be made without touching our big league team if we want to.”

Epstein will also look at free agency to bolster his bullpen and other weak spots on the team.

“We look into free agency as well as approach all avenues to get better,” Epstein said. “We want the organization and big league team to be better. That is contemplating trades at the big league level and with prospects. Also, trades for buy-low guys who are not household names, who maybe can become so in the future. We need to be honest about things we can do better in.”

It surely will be an interesting offseason for the Cubs because they will be making some major moves this winter. Expect them to shake up the bullpen, add another starter or two, and possibly find a new leadoff man to spark the team.
