First Look: ESPN to televise MLB Little League Classic

by -

On August 18, ESPN will exclusively televise the third annual MLB Little League Classic presented by GEICO on Sunday Night Baseball. The Chicago Cubs and Javier Báez will “visit” the Pittsburgh Pirates and Josh Bell. The game will be played at Historic Bowman Field in Williamsport, Pa., the same town as the Little League World Series. The stands of the intimate stadium will be filled with the Little Leaguers who are playing in the 73rd Little League Baseball World Series, which begins today. It will be considered a “home game” for the Pirates.

The MLB Little League Classic presented by GEICO begins at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN and will be available on the ESPN App, ESPN Radio and ESPN Deportes.

Matt Vasgersian will provide commentary with World Series Champion and analyst Alex Rodriguez, Olympic Gold Medalist and analyst Jessica Mendoza, and veteran reporter Buster Olney. It will mark the second MLB Little League Classic that this Sunday Night Baseball broadcast team has called.

Mike Couzens and analyst Chris Singleton will call the event on ESPN Radio, and audio from the broadcast will be available on the ESPN App.

Baseball Tonight: Sunday Night Countdown presented by Chevrolet will emanate from Williamsport, Pa. with a special 90-minute pre-game show starting at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN, leading into the MLB Little League Classic. Karl Ravech will host the show with World Series Champion and analyst Mark Teixeira and veteran reporter and analyst Tim Kurkjian.

ESPN will televise the first-ever T-Mobile Little League Home Run Derby Championship. It will air at 4:30 p.m., prior to Baseball Tonight: Sunday Night Countdown. The event features top youth sluggers – boys and girls – from across the country. There will be both a baseball and a softball derby as part of the telecast. Kevin Brown is calling the telecast with analyst Tim Kurkjian.

Additionally, on Tuesday, August 20, and Wednesday, August 21, the New York Yankees and Aaron Judge will visit the Oakland Athletics. Both games are at 10 p.m. on ESPN following the Little League World Series. Jon “Boog” Sciambi and analysts Rick Sutcliffe and Eduardo Perez will call the action. The telecast will be subject to local blackout restrictions in the New York market.
